Hypothesis Refiner Blueprint

This is an extraction from the Feature Impact Analysis Workbook. This framework aims to map the relationships between specific behaviors, user outcomes, and business outcomes.

Step 1

Enter the following prompt

Create a set of assumptions based on the provided information:

Behavior 1 assumption:

<input here: The specific behaviors that, when changed, will impact user outcome>

User outcome 2 assumption:

<input here: The short or long term desires that a user hopes to satisfy through usage>

Business outcome 3 assumption:

<input here: The value created for a company from impacting user outcomes>

Then present each assumption as a short paragraph without bullet points

  1. Behavior assumption

This posits that a feature induces specific user actions. Eg. a task management application might include a feature that allows users to start important tasks, encouraging them to prioritize and complete these tasks. Validating this assumption involves confirming that the feature indeed prompts uers to change their behavior int he intended way.

  1. User outcome assumption

This assumption explores the link between specific user behaviors and their corresponding outcomes. Eg. using the task-starring feature in a task management app should lead to users feelingmore organized and productive. Validating this assumption requires evidence that changinguser behaviors as intended by the feature leads to the desired user outcomes.

  1. Business outcome assumption

This assumption connects improved user outcomes to favorable business results. Eg. users who feel more productive and organized due to the task management app might be more likely to renew their subscriptions or purchase additional features. Validating this assumption involves demonstrating that the user outcomes lead to measurable business benefits, such as increased revenue or customer retention.

Step 2

Enter the following prompt

Using the these assumptions, create hypotheses that adhere to the following criteria for robustness:

  • Testable: Propose a relationship between variables with a method for empirical verification.

  • Falsifiable: Allow for conclusive determination as true or false following research.

  • Specific: Detailed and focused, based on in-depth understanding of context and variables.

  • Contextual: Grounded in existing knowledge and relevant tot he specific feature or situation.

  • Measurable: Quantifiable or allowing assessment of the feature's impact direction.

Then finally present the final output in this format:

  • Behavioural hypothesis

  • User outcome hypothesis

  • Business outcome hypothesis
